The Painted Turtle was an amazing hostel. One of my favourite. All the staff were super friendly but Katryne and Amy in particular were really helpful and great to hang out with. The hostel is always clean. Nice kitchen. Really social in the 'great room'. Highly recommend the Painted Turtle :)

The location was awesome... super close to downtown, the old city quarter, and the sea wall. Sabrina at the front desk was super helpful and friendly.

It's in downtown, the great room with the kitchen is huge and very clean. Nice washrooms with showers in it. So it was like a private shower.

Close to downtown, a block from the harbour, felt safe here. Very clean hostel with wide open, airy kitchen/living area. Free towel. There were 4 bathrooms on our floor, so no waiting. I would definitely recommend this hostel to others.

One of the nicest guesthouse I have been. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and tidy, very clean. The common areas are very nice, plenty games (a minifutball thing as well). Just lovely!!

The hostel is like a home away from home. It is not a loud, lewd, or "party" hostel. It is an excellent place to meet other travelers. Travelers cook and sometimes share meals in a clean and airy kitchen/living area. However, after ten p.m., quiet time is observed. My sleep was never disturbed by loud noises or "wild" parties or activities. The front door is locked at ten, even though guests are given keys to the door. The owners are very kind and helpful and will do anything and everything to make your stay better. They made train/bus/ferry reservations for me, or, if they couldn't, found out how I could. The rooms were clean and airy; the bed was comfortable. There was always plenty of hot water in the showers, and there are several showers on each floor. An extra nicety was the commercial washers and dryers downstairs. The Painted Turtle is located in the downtown of Nanaimo, very close to shopping and to the Harbor and theatre and arts area. Nothing is too far away. The owners also keep a supply of goods that travelers might need, such as shampoo, laundry soap, bottled water, etc. Tour information and information about other hotels and hostels is made available in the lobby. Internet there is free. I really cannot say enough good things about my stay at the Painted Turtle. The price is more than reasonable, especially for all the relaxation, assistance, and enjoyment I received during my stay.
