Pontivy was founded by a monk named Ivy.

Cultural heritage: the Rohans’ massive medieval castle, the old town’s corbelled houses that set against the rigour of Napoleonic buildings, and further on a myriad little chapels to discover, as well as lock-keeper houses. Natural heritage: the Canal de Nantes à Brest, Guerlédan Lake, Branguily Forest - a 450 hectare large massif.
